The City of Melbourne requires dogs to be leashed in all areas of the municipality except for designated off-leash areas in parks.
This helps preserve flora and fauna in parks and gardens.
Off-leash areas are essential for the health and well being of dogs. The City of Melbourne has seven parks and gardens that have designated off-leash areas where dogs can socialise and exercise off leash while still under the supervision of the owner.
The following parks have designated off-leash areas:
- Princes Park;
- Fawkner Park;
- Royal Park ;
- Yarra Park;
- Gosch's Paddock;
- North Melbourne Recreational Reserve; and
- J.J. Holland Park.
